Running counter to the conventional
wisdom that the Internet isolates people is a
new study by National Geographic
in conjunction with Massachusetts Institute of
Technology assistant professor
of Urban Studies and Planning Keith Hampton.
Their study indicates that people who frequently e-mail close relatives and friends are more likely to communicate in person and by telephone. The study involved approximately 60,000 respondents. In fact, Hampton uses the term "glocalization" in the February 2001 issue of Smart Money to describe the ability to chat with people on the other side of the planet while also maintaining strong connections to family, neighbors and colleagues. U.S. Global Investors encourages shareholders to use our website, www.usfunds.com, to share with, and learn from, your own friends and family about the possibilities for investing provided by our family of mutual funds.
