Baby Boomers have spawned the “Baby Blast,” but today’s generation of kids just may be more
interested in organizing personal financial portfolios than in organizing protests and demonstrations
reminiscent of their parents’ era.
Focusing attention on children and investing is natural, given that entrepreneurs barely out of their teens are inventing new products and processes in record numbers. In the process, many have become quite successful financially, leading to the need for new investment vehicles for young but very savvy investors. Standard checking and savings accounts are passé; mutual funds, brokerage accounts, individual retirement accounts for children and even Uniform Gift to Minors Act (UGMA) and Uniform Transfer to Minors Act (UTMA) accounts – see “Financial Solutions” article on page 11 – are drawing the attention and dollars of children and their parents. In coming issues of the Shareholder Report and on our website at www.usfunds.com, we will include investing suggestions, quizzes and strategies for educating and encouraging Baby Blasters regarding the benefits of earning, saving and investing their money. We will also feature children who have successfully established and followed personal financial goals. Starting is as easy as A-B-C You can begin building a position in any fund using the ABC Investment Plan.® A dollar-cost averaging strategy, the ABC Investment Plan® is an investment technique that lets you invest a fixed amount in a specific investment at regular intervals. It also eliminates the guesswork involved in market timing and assures that you have a position in the market at all times.* *A program of regular investing doesn’t assure a profit or protect against a loss in a declining market. You should evaluate your ability to continue in such a program in view of the possibility that you may have to redeem fund shares in periods of declining share prices as well as in periods of rising prices. You may want to consult a tax professional regarding your specific financial situation.
