Retirement
New year brings higher contribution limits

(Originally published in the 4th Quarter 2001 Shareholder Report)

The New Year means different things to different people. For some, it’s getting out the new 2002 calendar. For others, it’s a promise to start an exercise program to lose a few pounds.

Maybe it’s time to start a new tradition, a tradition that means more to your financial "health." January 1, 2002, marked the implementation of many changes to personal and employer-sponsored retirement plans, and increased retirement savings plan contribution limits are a major part of the changes.

Several workplace savings plans available through U.S. Global Investors have been positively affected by these changes:

The SIMPLE IRA (Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees Individual Retirement Account) – A retirement plan for self-employed and small business owners, which provides for both employee salary deferrals and employer contributions.

The SEP-IRA (Simplified Employee Pension) – A retirement plan for self-employed and small business owners to fund retirement accounts for themselves and eligible employees.

The 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan – A workplace savings plan, offered by tax-exempt and non-profit organizations, that allows employees to make pre-tax salary deferral contributions to individual 403(b) custodial accounts.

If you are already participating in one of these workplace savings plans, consider increasing your eligible contribution amount based on the new 2002 contribution limits. You can find out more about your retirement plan contribution limits at www.usfunds.com or by calling 1-800-US-FUNDS.

Take advantage of the opportunity provided through one of these retirement savings plans. The increased contribution limits make now a great time to begin saving toward your retirement.

The plans listed above, as well as other retirement savings plans available through U.S. Global Investors, offer several benefits:

No minimum initial investment to establish a retirement account.
Online Retirement Planner and Asset Allocation Worksheet.
 Online SEP-IRA Contribution Calculator.
A FREE lifetime waiver if you transfer or roll over $10,000 or more.
A family of no-load mutual funds to assist you in meeting your retirement goals.
