Tariffs from the U.S.-China trade war could push inflation higher, which has historically been good for the gold price, as the yellow metal often acts as a hedge. However, the U.S. dollar has been strengthening, which could be why gold has been flat so far this year. Frank believes that with negative real interest rates in Europe the gold price should be much higher, but that suppression of the market has kept it down.
