Although Europe has experienced strong economic expansion in recent years, inflation remains below the central bank's target of 2 percent.
The Central Bank of Russia has been increasing its gold holdings every month since March 2015 and now has the fifth largest gold reserves in the world. The eastern European nation also sits at number three on the list of top gold producing nations. Why might Russia be buying and digging up so much gold?
