China's Tech Industry Continues Expanding
June 29, 2018

China’s technology industry is exploding as gross output value of firms is estimated at 20 trillion yuan, or $3 trillion. The Asian nation is home to nine out of the world’s 20 largest tech firms and has more unicorns – or startups with an economic value of over $1 billion – than any other country in the world. Frank Holmes explains how tech investment will likely continue to grow, as Chinese foreign direct investment in the U.S. has fallen by 92 percent in the first half of this year due to a government crackdown on capital flight, among other reasons.

A Sentiment Indicator for Contrarian Investing
June 28, 2018

The U.S. Global investment team created a sentiment indicator of 126 indices, sectors, currencies, commodities and markets to measure cash flow levels and volatility. Frank Holmes explains how members of the team use this indicator to monitor the percentage of positions that have five-day moving averages above or below the 20-day moving averages, in relation to the S&P 500. This week the indicator fell below 20 percent which Frank views as a signal that markets are oversold and that now could be a time to buy.

Frank Holmes discusses how even though Russia has five times more residents than the Lone Star State, Texas’ economy is $400 billion larger at $1.7 trillion. Russia still dominates as the world’s top crude oil producer, but the U.S. is close behind in second place, with Texas pumping out 40 percent of it.
